Cantine Viola

Luigi, an elementary school teacher for 35 years, dedicated himself to pursuing his dream after retirement: preserving and promoting what he calls a nectar, Moscato Di Saracena, a sweet passito wine on the brink of extinction. Luigi’s efforts have paid off, as the first bottles introduced to the public and expert sommeliers were met with exceptional success. This exquisite dessert wine, known as Moscato Di Saracena, returned to the world’s attention thanks to Luigi Viola’s passion and dedication. Produced exclusively from native grapes such as Malvasia, Guarnaccia, and Moscatello, which are expertly blended after separate fermentation, Cantine Viola is based in Saracena within the Pollino National Park and spans 9 hectares, with 3 dedicated to vineyards where the family practices organic farming. With annual production, supervised by oenologist Alessio Dorigo, not exceeding 6,000 bottles of 50 cl, the wine’s exceptional quality has earned numerous awards and recognitions over the years. In 2009, Gambero Rosso named Cantine Viola’s Moscato Di Saracena the best sweet wine of the year.
