Marzocco di Poppiano

The company is nestled in the Chianti Colli Fiorentini region, situated on the hill of Poppiano at 300 meters above sea level. This medieval settlement features a prominent castle at its peak. The company is located on the opposite slope, along the crest of the hill overlooking San Casciano Val di Pesa, where the land is abundant in rocky soil known as pillolo and galestro. Owned by the family since 1975, the estate was acquired by the Conti Guicciardini Corsi Salviati family, who bestowed the Marzocco designation upon it. The property spans approximately 70 hectares, comprising 35 hectares of vineyards and 8 hectares of olive groves. In 2014, the company embarked on a project to zone the land and catalog its vineyard clones. Among the various grape varieties, they have identified four clones of Sangiovese, a 1950s Canaiolo, an interesting Trebbiano Toscano, and the long Chianti Malvasia. Additionally, the company grows international varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Since the 2015 vintage, they have been fermenting the parcels and grape varieties separately. New plantings of Vermentino and Viognier will soon come into production, introducing a white wine to their offerings. The olive groves consist of approximately 2,000 trees and are registered with the IGP Toscano olive registry, spread across four different plots. Cultivars present include Moraiolo, Frantoio, Pendolino, Leccino, Leccino del Corno, and Coreggiolo. Each year, depending on quality, the company selects the best cultivar and blends to produce single-varietal olive oil.
